The Code of Hammurabi is a well-preserved ancient law code, created circa 1760 BC in ancient Babylon. It was enacted by the sixth Babylonian king, Hammurabi. The stele containing the Code of Hammurabi was discovered in 1901 by the Egyptologist Gustav Jequier, a member of the expedition headed by Jacques de Morgan. The stele was discovered in what is now Khuzestan, Iran (ancient Susa, Elam), where it had been taken as plunder by the Elamite king Shutruk-Nahhunte in the 12th century BC. It is currently on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris..
The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Judean desert between 1947 and 1956 was one of the greatest archaeological finds of all time. Hidden in the caves at Qumran by the Essenes, a Jewish sect in existence before and during the time of Jesus, the Scrolls have transformed our understanding of the Hebrew Bible, early Judaism, and the origins of Christianity. This fully revised edition of the classic English translation by Geza Vermes, the worlds leading scholar on the subject, offers an astonishing look into the organization, customs, and beliefs of the community at Qumran.
This crazy, multi-directed and written, incomprehensible, 007 psychedelic spoof from 1967 holds a VERY emotional place of fondness in this readers movie loving heart. Oh, its a true mess, of a movie, but oh, what a wonderful mess (with one of the greatest film scores by Burt Bacharach). This book by Michael Richardson is an incredible history of the making of this convoluted cinema exercise involving the erratic nature of Peter Sellers, the continuously re-written screenplays, the directors, the cameos, the money spent, and the other BOND franchise legal battles over the making of this film.
