We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

The gripping international bestseller about motherhood gone awry.

Eva never really wanted to be a mother - and certainly not the mother of the unlovable boy who murdered seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher who tried to befriend him, all two days before his sixteenth birthday. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevins horrific rampage in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklin. Uneasy with the sacrifices and social demotion of motherhood from the start, Eva fears that her alarming dislike for her own son may be responsible for driving him so nihilistically off the rails.

Something To Talk About is a film about Grace, a young southern woman, and how finding out about her husband's infidelity opens her eyes to life. Grace was brought up in the old southern tradition that a woman should never cause a scandal or bring embarrassment to her husband or family. Therefore, when Grace, wearing night gown and boots, confronts Eddie, her husband, at eleven o'clock at night in the middle of the street about his affair, it causes some family unrest. After this confrontation, Grace decides she needs a separation in order to figure out her next move. She takes Caroline, her daughter, and goes to her parents in the country to stay with her sister in the guest house.
